RAMADI, IRAQ - NOVEMBER 2007
Major Megan McLung, 43, from Coupeville, takes a photo of the son of one of the most important tribal families in Ramadi, a new ally of the US army in Ramadi. The new strategy for US troops is to create an alliance with the local Sunni tribal groups for the fight against Al Qaeda. One hour after this picture was taken, Major Megan McLung died in an ambush set up with an IED (Improvised Explosive Device), within this tribal ally's territory in Ramadi.

BAGHDAD, IRAQ - NOVEMBER 2006
Nobody really knows how many people have died in Iraq since the beginning of the war. Seigtz, a soldier from 28 Combat Service Hospital (CSH), is in charge of taking the bodies from the hospital to checkpoint number 1 of the International Zone. This picture was taken during his first trip, and he said 'It was the hardest experience of my life, the smell of death was terrible.'

Iraq After 9/11
The war over, the Saddam regime crumbled, America is now in charge of Iraq. The ethnic, religious and political diversity of the country is now bursting in the open. Most Iraqis knowledge – albeit grudgingly – their debt to the US for liberating them and giving them a future. But they also hold America responsible for this future. A host of problems have now to be resolved. Resistance to a prolonged US presence in the country has begun.
